To maintain a consistent, visually engaging homepage—even when syndicated posts arrive without images—LexBlog now supports Default Featured Images at the category level.
This feature ensures consistent branding and layout, reduces the need for manual image selection, and enhances the user experience across the site.
Available On: All Plans
Before you start
- You'll need a user account with an Administrator role.
- You should know how to add/edit categories.
Overview
The Default Featured Image feature ensures that posts displayed in the Featured Posts widget always have an image, even if the original post didn’t include one. Here’s how it works:
- Assign per Category: Admins can assign a default featured image to each post category within the WordPress admin.
- RSS Post Handling: When a new post is pulled in via RSS, the system checks its category and automatically applies the corresponding image.
-
Category Priority: If a post belongs to multiple categories, the system prioritizes:
- The first category listed.
- A designated primary category if set.
How to Set It Up
- Log into WordPress Admin.
- Navigate to Posts > Categories.
- Select a category and upload or change its default image using the provided interface.
Note: Use branded or visually neutral images that represent the content or audience of each category. Consider setting a primary category for each post to ensure the most relevant image displays. Review your most-used categories first to get the most out of the feature.
