FOUNDATIONAL ELEMENTS AT BLOG LAUNCH

Announcements, PR and Inbound Links
At the launch of a new blog, we help with an initial inbound link "boost" from our established, high-reputation properties including LXBN and Real Lawyers Have Blogs as well as via our Twitter accounts. These online endorsements help jump start search engine reputation for new sites.

Hand-Customized Title Tags, Structure and Meta Description
To determine what type of content is on each page of your blog, search engines "read" title tags and meta descriptions. Title tags also appear as clickable links in search results. The title tag structure for each page in your blog (including individual post pages) is optimized so blog post titles are prominently featured first.

Additionally, using Google Trends and keywords relevant to your blog, client industry, and/or practice areas, our Success Team writes custom title tags for static pages in your main navigation and a custom meta description for your homepage.

Permalink Structure
We use a permalink structure that contains unique keywords and digits. Our publishing platform allows clients to edit post slugs to keep URLs simple even when a title is longer.

Sitemap Optimization
Your sitemap is a guide to your content for search engines. LexBlog sitemaps are written to be search-engine friendly so they can be easily discovered and crawled. Specifically, we build in prioritization for new post content over static pages, as individual post pages historically perform best in organic searches.

Select "No Index" Settings to Prevent Duplicate Content Penalty
Duplicate content on your site (e.g. your individual post content appearing in multiple places, like category archive pages) is inevitable but risks causing search engine confusion, directing search users to a page of your site that is less relevant to their specific query.

We "no index" pages strategically so duplicate content is not on your site. Specifically, we "no index:"

  • Page two (and beyond) of your homepage
  • Date archives
  • Author archives for single author blogs (otherwise this would be a duplicate of the homepage)

HTML Markup with Context for Search Engines
Our platform and designs output semantic markup, meaning we use industry-standard HTML tags for each type of content. This provides contextual meaning to search engines "reading" blog content. For example, addresses are marked with an <address> tag, and post titles on post pages are marked as <h1>.

Sitemap Submission to Google and Bing Webmaster Tools
We register your sitemap with Google and Bing to ensure each new post is quickly indexed for search.

Geographic Targeting
Search engines today rely heavily on search user customization, changing search results based on the location of the person performing a search. To ensure your blog content displays for users in the right location, as applicable, we specify to Google and Bing your desired geographic (country) target.

Domain Coaching
A domain that does not match the content of your site and/or blog title is common for spam sites. To prevent being flagged as a potential spam site, we assist new blog teams with domain research.

Image Training
Posts with images are seen as higher value by search engines because they are more likely to be interesting to a search reader. We encourage blog publishers to incorporate images into posts and train on best practices to make the most of image efforts.

ONGOING COMMITMENT

Best technical practices in search engine optimization is constantly evolving, and we are committed to working with and following leading industry experts to review and regularly update practices and policies.

Additionally, we assess and work on page load speed performance, upgrade our servers, infrastructure and caching regularly to help sites load faster for optimal search reputation and performance. While other factors beyond this technical foundation (e.g. extremely high resolution images uploaded by authors to blog posts) contribute to load times, average page load times across our network are under four seconds.
