Learn how the post editor is organized. It is where you write and configure posts. Use this overview before task guides.

The post and page editors share the same basic block-editing model. Some Post settings and publishing controls do not appear when you edit a page.
How the editor is organized
The post editor has four working zones: the top bar, the block canvas, the Post or Block settings sidebar, and the tools below the canvas. The controls you see can change when you select a block or change the post's status.
Top bar
The top bar contains document-wide tools. On the left, use the Block Inserter, undo and redo, and Document Overview. The title in the center opens the command palette. On the right, you may see Save draft, Save, View, LouAI, Yoast SEO, Settings, Publish, Schedule, and Options.
Publishing actions change with the post's status. A draft can show Save draft and Publish; a pending or published post uses Save; a scheduled post uses Schedule.
Block canvas
The canvas is where you add the title and build the post from content blocks. A paragraph, heading, list, image, and embed are all blocks. Selecting a block reveals its block toolbar and changes the controls available in the Block settings tab.
Use Document Overview to open List View or Outline. List View shows the order and nesting of blocks. Outline summarizes the post's structure, word count, and estimated reading time.
Post and Block settings sidebar
Click Settings in the top bar to show or hide the sidebar. Use the Post tab for document-level settings and the Block tab for the block currently selected in the canvas.
The Post tab includes the post summary, status, publish date, slug, template, featured image, and platform-specific panels such as Email Notification, Featured Image Positon, Authors, Social Share Graphic, Categories, Tags, and Page Layout. The available panels depend on your site, role, and the post's current status.
The Block tab changes with the selected block. It can contain typography, color, dimensions, link, image, and Advanced settings such as an HTML anchor.
Tools below the canvas
Some post tools remain below the block canvas instead of appearing in the settings sidebar. Excerpt lets you write a manual summary. Snapshots helps you search for an image. If a supported panel is hidden, open Options, select Preferences, and review the available interface and panel settings.
