User profile reference

This article explains the fields in a user's profile. All users can edit their own profiles. Administrators and Editors can edit other user profiles.

 

User Info

Username

The login name for this user. This field cannot be changed.

 

Email Address

The user's email address. This can be used to log in instead of the username. It will also be used if the user needs to reset their password. Important account notifications will be sent to the user's email address. Depending on your site design, the email address may also display on the front end for visitors to contact the user. It will appear on the user's LexBlog.com profile.

 

First Name, Last Name

The user's given name. These can display on your site by changing the Display Name menu.

 

Nickname

If you want to display more than your first and last name, such as your middle initial or post-nominal letters, enter an alternate name here.

 

Display Name

Choose which user name fields display as the user's public byline and where users are listed on your site. It will appear on the user's LexBlog.com profile.

 

Role

A user's Role controls the permissions they have on your site. Users may not change their own Role.

 

Display Order

Enter a number to change how a user is sorted on your site. A value of 1 will display above a value of 2.

You may also have to change the display order settings in a widget or shortcode:

  • For the List Users widget (usually for sidebars), change Select User Order to User Profile Display Order.
  • For the lxb_dga_users shortcode (usually for Contact or About pages), add the argument orderby='lxb_dga_order'.

 

Security

New Password

Click Generate Password to create a secure password. You can also enter a new password. Click Update User to save the new password.

 

Sessions

Click Log Out Everywhere to end login sessions on other devices. You should do this if you notice unusual user activity or didn't log out on a shared computer.

 

Last Password Reset Date

The date when the user's password was last changed. A password will be required to change at least once a year.

 

Contact Info 

Website

A link to a user's website, often a biography webpage. Depending on your site design, this may be linked to from the user's byline or where users are shown.

 

LinkedIn Profile

A link to the user's LinkedIn profile. Depending on your site design, this may be linked to from where users are shown. It will appear on the user's LexBlog.com profile.

 

Facebook Profile

A link to the user's Facebook profile. Depending on your site design, this may be linked to from where users are shown. It will appear on the user's LexBlog.com profile.

 

Twitter Profile

A link to the user's Twitter profile. Depending on your site design, this may be linked to from where users are shown. It will appear on the user's LexBlog.com profile.

 

Job Title

The user's organizational role. Depending on your site design, this may be linked to from where users are shown.

 

Phone Number

The user's phone number. Depending on your site design, this may be become a click-to-call link where users are shown.

 

Biography

User Photo

Upload the user's picture. Depending on your site design, this may be linked to from where users are shown. It will appear on the user's LexBlog.com profile.

 

Biographical Info

Enter the user's professional experience. To avoid creating a wall of text, we recommend keeping the bio to around three to five sentences. Depending on your site design, this may be shown where users are listed. It will appear on the user's LexBlog.com profile.

 

Undergraduate School and Undergraduate Years

The user's undergraduate school and attendance years. Depending on your site design, this may be shown where users are listed.

 

Law School and Law School Years

The user's law school and attendance years. Depending on your site design, this may be shown where users are listed.

 

Membership Info

List the user's bar memberships or other professional organizations. Depending on your site design, this may be shown where users are listed.

 

Subscriptions

Manage LexBlog Subscriptions

Subscribe or unsubscribe the user's email address to LexBlog.com channels.

 

Manage Email Subscriptions for This Site

Subscribe or unsubscribe the user's email address to your site's email notifications.

 

Personal Options

Use Visual Editor

Toggle whether the user sees the Visual Editor when editing posts or pages.

 

Admin Color Scheme

Select the colors the user sees when viewing your site admin pages.
